  • Candle and Wax Melt Safety

    • Place candles on a heat resistant surface. Be especially careful with night lights and tea lights, which will become hot enough to melt plastics
    • We recommend that you do not burn your candle more than 4 hours at a time.
    • Please be extremely cautious with small candles particularly if they are in glass containers. Do not touch the glass or attempt to move the candle whilst the wax is in liquid form as you will burn your fingers on the glass and possibly drop the container spilling the liquid wax which may burn you.
    • Place candles and melts in suitable heat/fire resistant holders. Candles need to be held firmly upright by the holder so they won't topple over. The holder also needs to be stable and placed on a flat surface.
    • Position candles a safe distance from curtains or anything flammable. Don't place candles near fabrics - or furniture and place them in a position free of draughts or wind.
    • Do not place candles under shelves. There is a great deal of heat above a burning candle. If you place it under a shelf or other surface it can burn that surface. Make sure there's at least three feet (one metre) between a candle and any surface above it.
    • Keep clothes and hair away from candle flames. If there's any chance you could lean across a candle and forget it's there, put it somewhere else.
    • Candles should be out of reach of children and pets.
    • Keep candles apart. Leave at least four inches (10cm) between two burning candles.
    • Take care with votive or scented candles. Always burn them in a glass or metal holder.
    • Do not move candles whilst they are burning as melted wax is extremely hot. Also, do not let anything fall into the hot wax like match sticks or anything flammable.
    • Don't leave candles burning. Extinguish candles before you leave a room and never go to sleep with a candle still burning. Never leave a burning candle or oil burner in a child's bedroom.
    • Use a snuffer or a spoon to put them out. It's safer than blowing them, which can send sparks or hot wax flying.
